MASKS

What are you hiding?
As a noun, “mask” is a covering worn over the face.  It might be there for protection, like a catcher’s mask.  Perhaps it’s a disguise, a Halloween mask; or has it become a characteristic, like “the mask of Zorro”?  When you see a mask, you know immediately what to expect. Or do you?

What of “mask” as a verb?  Suddenly we think of concealment and deception.  You can mask your intentions, or mask out the margins of a drawing.  On occasion, you may mask a strong odor with perfume, or mask a blemish with a tattoo.

And in this election year, do you perhaps see any use of the concept of the mask?
