About Judith Racht Gallery

Judith Racht grew up fascinated with the curious things of the world. Her family moved frequently as her father's work required, and her mother, Dee, made each new location an educational opportunity for her girls. Whether it was the Smithsonian or Churchill Downs, Dee exposed Judith and Karen to the history, architecture, and art of each location. By the time she was in high school, the family had settled in Southwest Michigan, where she met John Wilson. After babysitting the Wilson children for years and receiving her English degree from WMU, Judith joined Wilson's fledgling Art Expo.

A few years into this major international project Judith decided to go off on her own and opened her first gallery, in Lakeside, Michigan, in 1986. From the start, Judith combined contemporary art with the treasures she found at auctions and estate sales.

Not long into the business the schoolhouse building became available and the expanding gallery relocated to its present home in Harbert. In addition to showing contemporary art, hosting the annual Outsiders Outside Art Fair, and exhibiting folk art, furniture and quilts, Judith also offers select interior design services to an always satisfied clientele.
